Our Board of Deacons provides sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. The Board provides ushering at worship and communion preparation. Following each service a coffee fellowship is held organized by the deacons. In times of sickness and bereavement, members of the congregation are assisted through the deacon care program that provides for visitation, meals or other special needs. Requests are made to the office and coordinated by the three-team captains. In times of bereavement the deacons provide funeral receptions. Through the card ministry deacons sends out best wishes to special people in the congregation.

Deacons collect a loose change offering to support area hunger programs. Items of food are deposited in the “Deacon's Food Cupboard” and delivered to Chagrin Falls Community Park and clothing delivered to The City Mission.

During the Christmas season, the Deacons minister to the needs of Solon area families through the Adopt-A-Family Christmas gift program administered.

Standing Committees

Mission & Outreach

The Mission Committee at Pioneer is very active! It's goal is to promote an understanding of mission work and participation in programs locally, nationally, and globally. The committee makes recommendations to the Session regarding funding and support of particular mission interests, develop study opportunities, and strive to involve the congregation in mission work.

The Mission Committee also promotes special appeals and offerings approved by Session that reflect the work of the larger (Presbyterian) church. We respond to people in need when a hurricane strikes, or flooding occurs that destroys homes. Presbyterians do mission work very well and at Pioneer Church we work towards supporting the efforts of the larger church in as many ways as we can.

The Mission Committee has collected supplies to compile clean-up kits, health kits, and layettes to restock the depleted warehouse following the church's response to Hurricane Katrina. During this past Advent season, the Alternative Gifts program was in full swing to support Heifer Project International, the Presbyterian Border Ministry and the Medical Benevolence Foundation.

Please call the church office at 440-248-5260 for the next scheduled meeting. New members are always welcomed, even on a short or part-time basis. Diane Lehner is the committee chairperson.

The Outreach committee is dedicated to promoting the ministry and activities of Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church.  The team works to promote this both within the church and in the surrounding community. Within the church congregation, the Outreach team has developed a face-to face “welcome package” that includes a home visit to all church visitors. The committee then follows through with the Fellowship committee to make sure all new and potentially new members are involved with one of the many activities Pioneer has to offer, depending on the individuals’ interest.

The Outreach committee is committed to promoting Pioneer within the community through several forms of media including newspaper, signage, and promotional brochures. The team is particularly interested in educating the individuals moving into the Solon area on the vast opportunities awaiting those that visit our church.

Membership & Fellowship

The Membership Committee has a two-fold responsibility:

  1. To keep track of individual church members through various systems and programs, making sure that members have had full opportunity for involvement, and no member is forgotten or lost within the organizational life of the church.
  2. To assist visitors and friends in the membership process, welcoming them into the congregation as new members and assisting with their integration into the life of the church.

The Membership Committee maintains the membership rolls, the church member picture board. The Committee also offers potential new members the opportunity to better understand the process of membership, assists the pastor in providing Inquirers' Groups for prospective members and coordinates new member incorporation.

Current and planned Membership Committee activities include recruitment of Committee members

The Hospitality and Outreach Committee provides ways for Pioneer Church members to effectively and joyously share their Christian faith with people who come to our worship services and activities. The Committee also provides ways for extending to the surrounding community to become members of Pioneer Church.

The Committee continuously strives to discover new ways for Pioneer Church to become more welcoming and hospitable for our members and visitors. The Committee is currently focusing on improving ways to assimilate potential and new members into our Pioneer Church family.

Should you have any recommendations or concerns for the Hospitality and Outreach Committee, please contact the church office.

Fellowship

The Fellowship Committee is responsible for providing opportunities for social and recreational contact among members of the congregation, helping them to know one another; and feel more a part of our church family. Past events have included:

A Sweetheart Breakfast in February
A Health Fair
Memorial Day Cook-out and Picnic combined with the Mission Fiesta
Many fun-filled and stomach-filling Wednesday Night Live Family Dinners
A progressive dinner in October was a very warm and fun way to meet one another

Winter sessions of Wednesday Night Live are promoting Pioneer family fellowship in a meaningful way.

Should you have an interest in participating in the Fellowship Committee, please contact the church office.

Finance & Stewardship

In the area of Finance:
We provide advice and consultation to all committees, boards, and staff in matters related to the finances of the church.  This includes:

·        Preparation of the annual budget and oversight of financial reporting.

·        Reporting to session and the congregation on a regular basis regarding the financial status of the church.

·        Providing recommendations to session regarding collection and disbursement of funds in light of the budget.

·        Providing and overseeing procedures and controls for collection, handling, investment, and disbursement of church funds.

 In the area of Stewardship:
We educate the congregation in matters of Christian Stewardship as the total response of Christian people to God’s love in Jesus Christ, interpreting the mission of the church while helping the members of the church family understand their financial responsibility to share and support the congregation’s ministry.  This includes:

·        Developing creative and interesting ways of “telling the story” to its members through programs, printed materials, and the use of electronic communication techniques.

·        Conducting an annual stewardship campaign to receive commitments of financial support through pledges.
